African Hip Hop Indaba turns 20
African Hip Hop Indaba is one of the longest running Hip Hop events in South Africa and is hosted annually by Heal The Hood Project.
Started 20 years ago, it proudly has raised money for more than 200 Hip hop artists to travel to international events.
This year it hosts a new component of school shows showcasing learners interpretation of songs from the play Afrikaaps. This happens at Pelican Primary on the 9th & 10th September 2019. On the 13th September the venue shifts to CPUT in Bellville, where we will host the 3rd Annual African Hip Hop Indaba Lecture Series, with UCLA Professor H.Samy Alim as Keynote speaker on Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy and Education via Hip hop Culture.
Some of the cast of Afrikaaps will speak of Afrikaaps as a solution. Osmic Menoe of Back To The City, South African Hip Hop Awards & The South African Hip Hop Museum will speak about the events, Paulskee from Rock Force Crew from California, USA will speak about his event, Mighty 4, that he hosted in 30 countries. Professors Adam Haupt, Quinton Williams and Emile YX? will launch their new book, “Neva Again”. The event start at 930am. Later that evening will host a solo Breakdance Competition at the same venue and the winner wins a flight to France to represent South Africa at Battle Of The Year.
