From just over 3000 people at the first concert in 2007 to reported 14000 people this year.  Hip Hop don’t stop! Huge Shout out to Premilla Murcott for these dope pics.

In December 2011 we went out with Hand Break Turn and One.Dog.Chicken to shoot the first ever Butan commercial in and around Cape Town. We shot at the Civic Centre, the Golden Acre and Salt River Station. The outcome is incredible. Really love the look and feel of this video. Besides the actual commercial, Dewald from One.Dog.Chicken took some dope behind the scenes stills. Thought of sharing them with you. Here they are:

Cape Town’s Most Wanted

February 16, 2012 Updates No Comments

On January 27th Kool Out Live in association with Butan Wear and Play Energy Drink brought together the finest in Cape Town hip hop in the 2nd Annual “Most Wanted” event. This event is a collective of the artists that made the most noise within the city over the past year and served as a showcase of the Mother City’s best talent. The marketing campaign was based on the theme from the movie the “Usual Suspects” and saw gain a huge response all the way from the CBD to Paarl prior to the event. “Most Wanted” featured ILL Skillz, Suburban Menace, Youngsta, Hemel Besem, Garlic Brown, Nonku Phiri, and Hand Break Turn (B-Boys).

The night kicked off with Suburban Menace coming out strong representing the Northern Suburbs. The 4 member crew brought plenty of energy as they got the stage ready for the veteran emcee Garlic Brown. In what many consider the top performance of the night, Garlic came thru with his high energy rhymes reminding everyone that hip hop is anything but dead. Up next was musical prodigy Nonku Phiri. Despite some sound problems, Nonku delivered a soulful performance to a new audience that is sure to remember her.

At the halfway point, Hand Break Turn got the crowd jumping with a stellar dance performance before clearing the stage for Hemel Besem. This Paarl rapper has been making strides throughout the entire Western Cape and delivered Garlic Brown’s competition for performance of the night. Hemel Besem’s well delivered set had the crowd singing hooks and turned a lot of heads in the industry. ILL Skillz jumped on next and gave their typical high energy performance performing new hits as well as old tracks from “Off the Radar”. Cape Town’s newest hip hop sensation Youngsta closed it out reminding us why he has the biggest buzz in the city. When it was all said and done, all the artists came back on stage for a crew track produced by D Planet.

Cape Town’s “Most Wanted” proved to be the highest attended hip hop event in the CBD in over a year and set the precedent for 2012. Big thanks to everyone that participated and helped make this a huge success.
